Andrew Belle via New York City

December 2, 2010

Last month, only weeks before I moved to this incredible city, Andrew Belle [andrewbelle.com / @andrewbelle] and I happened to be in NYC at the same time. I’m friends with a lot of touring musicians, and travel a lot myself, so ending up in the same city on the same day as a friend is always a welcome surprise.

And so, the afternoon after an incredible 13 or 14 course (we lost count) Italian meal the night before (when you’re a badass artist like Andrew, meals like this just end up happening… gratis for Drew and all friends present, of course). We had a few minutes to shoot before his show at the City Winery. After a couple of blocks of walking, catching up, and maybe a tiny bit of boot shopping, we ended up with some photos. These are my favorite three.

a Ghost and a Clothesline

November 30, 2010

I recently passed through Nashville on a road trip from LA to NYC, and had the absolute pleasure of getting to shoot again with my current favorite muse, Caylin. She’s unique and talented in many ways: singer, sewer, artist, seeker, mandolin player, and of course, a stunning natural beauty.

We started late in the day with only a little sunlight left, and no real plan. Caylin has an impressive vintage dress collection, and as she started bringing them out, a color palette started to form. I had the idea to hang them on the clothesline in her back yard and see what kind of story we could create with just a single look, and about 30 minutes left of light.

This is some of what we got. To me this tells a story of something ghost-like, unattainable, unavailable… but maybe not? A little film, a little digital, no hair or makeup artists and no assistants. My favorite way to shoot.

Jaimie Alexander + Malibu + Hoodie

August 2, 2010

A couple of months ago I had the absolute pleasure of spending an afternoon shooting with my friend Jaimie Alexander (some of you will know her from her leading roll as Jessi on Kyle XY). She’s stunningly beautiful, crazy talented, humble and sweet, and she’s about to be HUGE. In May of 2011, Jaimie will star as Sif, the warrior goddess of Asgard (and the only female on the cast who gets to play a goddess role), in the Kenneth Branagh directed film Thor. She gets to star alongside a broad range of talents like Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Kat Dennings, and Rene Russo. And nobody deserves it more than Jaimie does.
